First Class 9-17

Yesterday we had our first official Religious Ed class. It was great to meet all of my new students and start getting acclimated to a new year. This year we have a new book and I am very excited about it!

A few Housekeeping notes:
-Your child brought home a folder and book. These should be brought to class every week. Inside the folder there is a "share" side and a "finished" side. Anything on the "share" side is something for your child to share with you when he/she gets home. Important notes that were in there this week: letter from me, email address note, schedule, schedule of important dates, homework!
-Please read the letter carefully as it outlines the expectations for this exciting new year of Religious Education.

After we got all of that out of the way, we made nametags for ourselves. We wrote our name and drew 2 pictures that represent us. I wrote my name and drew a pumpkin and a book. My husband and I have a pumpkin patch and we sell pumpkins in October. I few a book because I love to read!

After that we spent some time exploring our new books. Lots of neat things to check out!

We completed the first Chapter in the book: Session 1. We learned about God and Creation. We learned that God made everything in the world. We also learned that God did this because he loves us so much. God loves everything in his creation and we talked about ways we can help take care of the world that God loves so much.

We also talked about the Trinity: The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit. We drew pictures of what we think it means to us. Later this year we will draw pictures again to see what we have learned.

We did a worksheet to review what we learned. We practiced reading it together to help remind us about God's creation.

At the end of the session (and every session) we ended in the gym. Ms. Michele and one of our classmates led us in doing the Sign of the Cross and saying the Our Father.

Homework (homework in the book is always marked by a post-it flag):
-Finding my Faith section completed as a family-this week it includes drawing a picture (page 9)
-God's Blessings worksheet

We keep a sticker chart to mark who has completed their homework every week. There are 2 things to complete for the next session!

This website:
-There are a few neat things about keeping up to date with our classroom blog.
-Schedule of classes and required/important events on the right.
-Schedule of Children's Liturgy of the Word at 9:15 Mass on the right.
-Links to important websites.
-You can always check what the homework is before the next class section.
-You can see what your child has been up to in class and have meaningful discussions about what was learned.

I look forward to spending the year with you and your child! Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help you.
